Businessman Arif Habib, a potential buyer linked to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), has clarified key concerns regarding the airline’s future, including job security, branding, and operational priorities. Speaking to the media, Habib emphasized that his primary goal is to turn PIA into a profitable and sustainable airline.
Job Security Linked to Performance
Habib stated that PIA employees will be provided job security, but stressed that continued employment will depend on performance. According to him, staff members who deliver results and contribute positively to the airline’s operations will remain part of the organization.
He acknowledged that PIA employees played a vital role in the airline’s past success and will continue to be central to its revival and future growth.
Will PIA’s Name Change?
Addressing speculation about rebranding, Habib clearly stated that existing agreements do not allow any change to the airline’s name. This means Pakistan International Airlines will retain its identity, easing concerns among employees and the public.
Focus on Overseas Pakistanis and Religious Travel
Habib highlighted that over 14 million Pakistanis live abroad, while more than 70 million people within Pakistan rely on PIA in different capacities. He said efforts will be made to encourage Pakistanis to travel with the national airline, particularly for Hajj and Umrah operations, which will remain a top priority.
Plans to Revive Sports Activities
The businessman also shared plans to revive sports activities within PIA, calling it an important part of the airline’s long-term vision. However, he noted that restoring these programs will take time and careful planning.
Remarks on Youth Sports
During the event, Habib praised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for selecting Naya Nazimabad as the venue for inter-school cricket matches, describing it as a positive step for promoting youth sports in Pakistan.
