WhatsApp is working on adding voice and video call support for group chats on WhatsApp Web, according to a new report by WABetaInfo. The feature is still under development and is not yet available to beta users.
What’s Coming
Once rolled out, the update will allow users to join and start group voice or video calls directly from WhatsApp Web, without needing to install a desktop app. This is especially useful for people using shared or temporary computers.
Bringing Web in Line With Mobile & Desktop
WhatsApp has been gradually closing the gap between its web, mobile, and desktop experiences. While one-to-one calling support was hinted at earlier, group calling on the web is now being actively developed to match the capabilities users already have on Android, iOS, and desktop apps.
Group Call Features
-
Start calls directly from group chats on WhatsApp Web
-
Join calls across mobile, desktop, or web—no device restrictions
-
Expected support for up to 32 participants, similar to mobile (final limit not officially confirmed)
Call Links & Scheduled Calls
The report also notes two additional features in progress:
-
Call links: Create and share voice or video call links directly from group chats on the web.
-
Scheduled calls: Plan calls in advance with a title, description, and approximate start/end time. Participants will be notified ahead of time, but calls won’t start automatically.
Availability
Group voice and video calls, call links, and scheduling tools on WhatsApp Web are still under development and will arrive in a future update. WhatsApp is continuing to refine these features and fix bugs before a public release.
Bottom line: WhatsApp Web is set to become far more powerful, letting users handle full group calls straight from the browser—no extra apps required.
