As extreme cold weather sweeps across Pakistan, the majority of parents and citizens are urging authorities to extend winter school holidays. The Ministry of Education recently conducted a public opinion poll to gauge feedback on the reopening of schools and colleges after the winter break.

Poll Participation and Results
So far, 24,756 people have cast their votes in the Ministry’s survey. According to the results:
-
83% of citizens favored reopening educational institutions on 19 January
-
17% of citizens supported reopening on 12 January
The overwhelming support for delaying school reopening indicates that parents are concerned about children’s safety and well-being during harsh weather conditions.
Reason Behind the Demand
The current cold wave has brought freezing temperatures to many parts of the country, raising health concerns among parents. Schools, especially in regions with insufficient heating, may pose risks to students if reopened too soon.
Authorities Consider Public Opinion
The Ministry of Education stated that it values public input and is reviewing poll results to make a data-driven decision about the reopening schedule. Officials confirmed that parents’ and citizens’ opinions will play a critical role in finalizing the school calendar.
What This Means for Students and Parents
If winter holidays are extended, students will benefit from safer conditions and families will have additional time to adjust to the extreme cold. However, teachers and schools may need to reschedule academic activities to compensate for lost days.
