The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially issued a notification dividing Swat District into two separate administrative districts. The announcement, released by the Board of Revenue and State Department, states that the division is effective immediately.
According to the notification, the decision was approved in the 43rd meeting of the provincial cabinet on December 19, 2025, under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Land Revenue Act, 1967. The government emphasized that the move is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and public services.
New Districts and Their Headquarters

Bar Swat District: Headquarters will be Mingora (Matta), including Tehsils Matta, Bahrain, and Khwaza Khela.

Swat District: Headquarters will be Gulkada, comprising Tehsils Babozai, Kabal, Charbagh, and Barikot.
Officials stated that dividing the district will allow for better management of administrative affairs, more efficient delivery of public services, and improved implementation of development projects.
Impact on Government Departments
Following the creation of the new districts, police, judicial, electoral, and other government departments will adjust their operations according to the new administrative boundaries. The move is expected to enhance governance, speed up public service delivery, and facilitate local development in both districts.
