Government Plans Pakistan’s Biggest Ramadan Relief Package

The federal government has begun preparations for what is expected to be the largest Ramadan relief package in Pakistan’s history, aimed at providing financial and food-related assistance to millions of citizens during the holy month.

According to sources, the government intends to roll out a relief package exceeding Rs. 110 billion, which could benefit up to 10 million people across the country. The Prime Minister has directed authorities to ensure maximum possible relief for the public amid persistent inflation.

💰 Who May Benefit From the Ramadan Relief Package?

Sources indicate that the government is considering expanding the scope of the package to include:

  • Individuals earning less than Rs. 50,000 per month

  • Families outside the existing welfare net

For this purpose, more than Rs. 30 billion may be allocated at the federal level to widen eligibility and coverage.

🏛️ Provinces Also Preparing Their Own Relief Plans

Alongside the federal initiative, provincial governments have started preparing their own Ramadan relief packages:

  • Punjab: Around Rs. 45 billion allocated

  • Sindh: Proposal under review for Rs. 25 billion

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Estimated package between Rs. 10–13 billion

For comparison, the federal government provided a Rs. 20 billion relief package during last Ramadan, highlighting the scale of the proposed increase this year.

🧾 How the Relief Will Be Distributed

Multiple ministries — including Finance, Industries, and Poverty Alleviation — are working on the package on an emergency basis.

Key features under consideration include:

  • Subsidised sugar, including imported sugar, at Ramadan bazaars

  • SMS-based registration via 8070 for public convenience

  • Use of BISP data to identify deserving beneficiaries

The Prime Minister has also instructed officials to include needy individuals beyond the BISP database, ensuring wider outreach.

📌 Why This Matters for Pakistani Households

With food inflation remaining a major concern, the proposed Ramadan relief package could:

  • Reduce household expenses during the holy month

  • Improve access to essential food items

  • Provide targeted support to low-income families

If implemented as planned, this initiative could become the most comprehensive Ramadan relief effort Pakistan has ever seen.
